Group Communications

Understanding Groups
= Set of people who have common goals interact with each other to achieve common goals, knowing each other, and regard them as part of the group (Deddy Mulyana, 2005)

Team Effectiveness Factors

Communications Group
- Face to face interaction between three or more, with the aim of which is well known, such as sharing information, keeping themselves, problem solving, in which its members can recall the personal characteristics of other members as appropriate.
- Feature: face to face communication, and has a certain arrangement of the work plan to achieve group goals.

Magnitude Based Communications Group Member
1. Small group communication. (Small group communication),

Group Influence on the Behavior of Communication

Primary and Secondary Communications
1. Primary group is a group whose members relate intimate, personal, and touching in the association and cooperation.
2. Secondary group is the group whose members do not relate intimate, impersonal, and did not touch our hearts.

Primary Group Characteristics Based on its communications
- The quality of communication in primary groups is deep and widespread. In, meaning that penetrate our most hidden personality, revealing backstage elements (the behavior we are putting out in a private atmosphere.) Widespread, meaning that very few constraints that determine the range and how to communicate. In the secondary group communication are shallow and limited.
- Communication in the primary group was personal, while the secondary group non personal.

- Communication tends informal primary group, while the formal secondary group.

Group Membership and Referral

Theodore Newcomb (1930) gave birth to the term group membership (membership group) and a reference group (reference group).

1. Group membership is a group whose members are administratively and physically to be a member of the group.
2. Reference group is the group that is used as a measuring tool (standard) to assess themselves or to form attitudes.

Descriptive and prescriptive group Groups
1. Descriptive category shows the classification of the group by looking at the process of its formation in nature. Based on the objectives, measures, and communication patterns.
2. Prescriptive group, referring to the steps that must be a member of the group to achieve group goals.
